In 2018, I am finally going to start a blog working through 365 days of impacts on my life. This is meant to tell the story of who I came to be in bits and pieces. This exercise is meant to show we are all shaped by the people, situations, circumstances, joys and sorrows that have impacted our lives. Sometimes we are influenced just as much through learning about what we don't want to be like, than what we turned out to be. Sometimes it is a stranger who makes a lasting impression on us, and we may never know their name. Sometimes it is those who've been the worst to us that actually teach us the BEST lessons. If nothing else, since I don't have kids, this will serve as an autobiography of experiences that have shaped my character since May 3 1965. I will try to include pictures where I needed. April 11th is the birthday of my sister - Christy Suzanne White. The only way I can describe my sister is salt of the earth. She is Aries all the way and I am Taurus - this lended to some head butting early on, but while she and I did not always get along in our younger years, I have nothing but love and respect for her now. The best story that I have to tell what my sister is made of is that when my father came home from his last hip surgery without an actual hip socket/acetabulum to put his femur back into, my sister dropped everything - her entire life in California to stay for almost a year in Alabama to help my mom care for him in the house until he was better. There was a hospital bed in the den. He got an infection that required them to clean and redress the 10+ inch incision/wound daily, and a high powered antibiotic had to be administered for 18 weeks via a pic line that went straight to his heart. Christy administered this most days - with Dad timing the dose, because it had to be pushed through the line straight into his heart over a 2 minute period. She helped my mom keep the house clean, and most importantly - helped both of them through this hard time in their lives. It was not always easy. I have so much admiration for the love, compassion and grace that she showed during this time in their lives. I am not sure I could accomplish what she did during this time. That's my sister. She does WHATEVER IT TAKES. And she does it with grace and compassion. I am so thankful to have her in my life. We don't get to talk daily, but I know no matter what happens - she would be here for me in a flash to help out. << - Post for 4/11/2018 >>
