Since college, I have had one friend that embodies St. Patricks day, and that is JILL MILLER. Jill was the trainer for the GAMECOCKs for the 4 years I was at school and I knew many a football player through her. These included dudes like Chief (he was the Center I think - like 325, 6'4"totally american indian), or Sterling Sharpe, or my favorite, Jo Mo. So many funny stories at Twilight for 50 cent pitcher night, or Group. I met her through who else, Susan Appleby. Jill was super crazy in College, but I didn't really get to know her until after graduation and she moved to Tybee Island, GA. Many a year spend going to River Street for Green beers in our 20s, 15 of us sleeping on the floor in wall to wall air mattresses in her studio apartment, or in her parents sunroom back to back to back sleeping bags. We'd get up at 6am to get a good spot in one of the squares in Savannah to watch the parade, then end up down on River Street dancing with Jack! And in later years, back at Tybee drinking green beers down at the beach at Skippers. OMG the crazy memories with Miller. Jack and Betty, her parents, are a main staple to my group of college girlfriends. They are almost like surrogate parents to us. My first trip to KeyWest was with Miller and her parents - to their Condo. Many an Oyster Roast at their place on the tidal creeks in the outskirts of Tybee. Jill has been a faithful high school counselor to challenged kids her entire career. This is a job that takes fortitude, courage and the ability to help those who can't help themselves - she has suffered many a loss to gun violence - but she has always kept her positive attitude and persevered. I have been to Jill's wedding to Bubba back in the day - that was also a blast - setting up, dancing with Jack! So many good times. And how many awesome years at Edisto? She has always been a loyal daughter to Jack and Betty and a loyal friend to us. I miss the good old days of St. Pattie's down on River Street - With the girls, getting our Shamrock on. Just stay away from the green jello shooters! Here's to Jill Miller - and Jack and Betty. You, your family and the love you have shown me, the warmth of your salt of the earth characters have impacted me greatly.
