Type 2 Diabetes

I've struggled with my weight my entire life.  There may have been that stretch in high school where I was the thinnest I've ever been...but for the most part, I lived on a diet of one kind or another.  Cabbage diet, the all banana diet, fit for life, counting points, counting calories, Salads for every meal.  You name it, I've been on it.  One of the biggest impacts on my life was being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes 5 years ago.  I was in denial for one year after being diagnosed.  I basically did not believe this was happening to me.  My numbers were all out of whack.  It was not until my doctor threatened to put me on insulin that I finally said ENOUGH!  Sugar is evil.  I went on a diabetic diet, lost 60 pounds, and low and behold many of my ailments disappeared, but best of all, my numbers came back inline with the norm.  I know we all see things out there for Whole 30, Plant based diets, High Protein diets, you name it.  The bottom line if you watch what you put in your body, eat healthy, eat proper portions, you don't even really have to exercise.  Food is fuel - you fill your tank with healthy food, your engine burns cleanly.  Your body stabilizes and you get back on track.  Things that improved for me once I started paying attention to this were my ankle edema, my asthma, my joint pain inflammation, my sight, my clarity of thought, my energy levels.  Probably the biggest lesson I learned was that water truly is the food of life! Water flushes you out and keeps your cells stable.  I know that when I walked in and my doctor didn't recognize me, that I did the right thing.  She basically took me off my Metformin immediately.  I then came back 6 mos later, and she told me that I was no longer pre-diabetic. I have to say that this was one of my biggest accomplishments.  Every day
