The Artistic Med Student
Caroline Elizabeth Williams is Dennis' youngest child, and the first of them that I met. Caroline and I hit it off instantly because we had a bunch in common - specifically artistic talent. She was 13 when we met - I was singing at Eddie's Attic with my band at my friends 40th birthday party and Dennis brought her out to meet me. I don't think that I am overstating when I say that she is a child prodigy. Her ability lies in academics. From a young age, she has always been at the top of her class. She graduated as the top Student at Tucker High School - having received the highest SAT score of all the students, complete with banner on the front of the school! She is also a voracious reader (something I am not and wish I was) and has read almost every series of books from Outlander to all the Harry Potter Series. She makes me wish that I was a better reader so we could have more conversations around books. Not only is she good at academics, but Caroline is a wicked good painter. Acrylic, Oil you name it. I was blown away by the first painting I saw of hers. Caroline can also play almost any song on the piano by ear. For someone like me who cannot play an instrument (well) this is amazeballs. Piano is something she does not have time to cultivate because she is so busy in school, but it is something I know she will always go back to when time allows her to pick it back up. Caroline also speaks fluent spanish and french. Oh, and did I mention she is in Med School? After undergrad at University of Miami in pre-med, she scored high on the MCAT and applied for med school. Now, she is putting herself through Miller Medical School at University of Miami and is in her second year. Needless to say, we don't hear from her much - only when she comes up for air from studying or comes home for holidays. She is incredibly focused and keeps her attention on her studies. In addition to school, she has gone on multiple medical "mission" trips to Peru, Honduras and shadowed many doctors including her cousin Brian in building her resume for school and beyond. She is not settled on a specialty yet, but she has talked about brain or spine surgery being her path. Being 4 years younger than Brad, I'd say she weathered the most direct hit during the divorce, but she has bounced back and is on an incredible track for success. I am truly proud of the woman that Caroline is becoming. She is so different from that little 13 year old girl that I met back in 2005. Even though she was the first one I met, I probably know her the least out of all 3 kids because she has been away the most at school. That said, I look forward to watching her blossom into a doctor later in her life and cultivating my relationship with this BONUS Daughter! She has already made me very proud!
